Avoid elements that disrupt unity, govt stability, says Sabah CM on Christmas celebration

KOTA KINABALU: Elements or efforts that could disrupt the unity of the people and government stability, must be avoided so that the development agenda planned for Sabah could be realised.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor called on the people here to work together with the government to ensure social prosperity, including supporting the programmes under Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) halatuju.

The diverse group of Sabah folks have long practiced the spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect for one another, he added.

“Even during every festive season, we have celebrated together, irrespective of race and religion.

“So, I want the people of this state to set aside differences and focus on values that unite us, not divide us.

“So, let’s forget political matters as we focus on working for the people and the state.

“What is important, the cooperation from the people would ensure success to SMJ halatuju policies and programmes,” he said during the launch of the Kota Kinabalu Christmas celebration at Padang Merdeka downtown on Tuesday night (Dec 13).

His speech was read out by Deputy Chief Minister cum state Agriculture and Fishery Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Hajiji also reiterated the state government’s sincerity in providing assistance to all communities here, with RM54.05mil allocation under 2023 state budget going towards non-Muslim religious bodies and schools (Chinese vernacular and mission schools).

This was an increase of RM7.05mil compared to what was allotted this year, he said.

“As a concerned government that wants to contribute equally, we will continue providing aid and allocation to non-Muslim religious bodies, which will benefit the churches in this state,” he explained.

Hajiji stressed that harmony and tolerance in practicing religions in Sabah must be maintained for the good of the current and future generations.

At the event, he, on behalf of the state government, appreciated the commitment and efforts by Kota Kinabalu City Hall and Sabah Council of Churches for successfully holding the 17th Christmas celebration at the state capital that is joined by city folks and surrounding areas.
