Dr Wee: Transport Ministry to conduct regular engagements with ehailing services

PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will conduct regular engagements with ehailing services to ensure a good partnership between the private sector and the government, says Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee said he met up with Grab group chief executive officer and co-founder Anthony Tan and his team in Malaysia on Wednesday (Jan 26).

However, he expressed his disappointment that the meeting could only be done remotely due to Covid-19.

“We exchanged some ideas on how to complement each other to maintain safety and security for passengers, drivers, riders and all users of Grab’s services. I am pleased to know that Grab is continuously innovating in their labs to balance the speed of their services with the top priority of keeping its stakeholders safe.

“I also urged Grab’s management to assist the Ministry with engaging its end users, both riders and passengers, to keep them updated on the public policies and rules that govern the service.

“The Ministry will continue to have regular engagements with Grab and other ehailing services to ensure a good linkage between the private sector and the government’s policies in this space,” he said on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

In the one hour meeting, Dr Wee said he, together with the Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak, Land Transport undersecretary Wan Asraf Wan Salleh, were joined by Grab Group COO Alex Hungate, Grab Malaysia Country MD Sean Goh, the public affairs director Ebi Azly Abdullah, and country operations director Rashid Shukor.
