KOTA KINABALU: The move to accept Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob into Umno again is expected to strengthen the party, said Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic).
“Sabah Umno’s policy is that we are open and accepting of anyone, either new members or those who used to be with Umno and wish to rejoin the party.
“We will ensure they will play a part to strengthen the party in the coming future,” he said when attending the Hari Raya open house hosted by Yusof in Sipitang on Sunday (May 22).
Besides Yusof, there were also former Parti Warisan members from branches in Sipitang who are joining Umno, said Bung Moktar, however he did not reveal any figures.
Yusof who left Warisan last year to become an independent Sindumin assemblyman, was previously with Umno but contested under Warisan ticket in 2018 and the 2020 elections.
Asked about the reaction of other Umno leaders on Yusof rejoining them, Bung Moktar said, “This has been our policy and there is no disagreement on this matter.
“We see that the party must be developed together and cannot grow on its own, and we will be stronger when we open our doors.
“The sentiment today that I see, there is much support towards Barisan Nasional and Umno, which will benefit us in the coming elections,” he explained.
