Selangor’s Teratai rep becomes Warisan’s first assemblyman in the peninsula

KOTA KINABALU: Selangor’s Teratai assemblyman Bryan Lai has joined Parti Warisan, becoming the party’s first state assemblyman in the peninsula.

Lai, who was with DAP before becoming an Independent, announced that he was joining Warisan on Saturday (Jan 22).

He also said that Warisan was the only true multiracial party in the country.

“We need a true multiracial leader and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is a true moderate and open-minded leader,” he said at the Warisan Unity Night here on Saturday.

He was among a mix of political figures named as the Sabah-based party’s members in the peninsula.

Former members as well as leaders of various political parties were among those present at the event.

Among them were former Penang DAP’s Danny Law Heng Kiang, former MP Jeff Ooi and Umno’s former Kukup assemblyman Suhaimi Salleh.

Law, who quit DAP on Nov 18, is expected to lead Warisan’s Penang chapter.

Also seen at the event was Datuk Seri S. Sunther, the son of former MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam.

In his speech, Suhaimi said that it was time for a strong, capable leader to lead the nation.

Ooi said he hoped his application to join Warisan would be considered.
