Proton earlier today has officially launched its new Saga MC2 facelift, which consists of four different variants of varying specs and features. Among them is the high-end Proton Saga Premium S, which is the first model from the local automaker‘s signature sedan line to finally feature two much requested quality-of-life features: keyless entry and ignition.
The concept of gaining entry to a vehicle and starting it through a keyfob isn’t exactly new, and the technology itself is already present in certain Proton car models such as the current generation Persona, Iris, and X70. However, its inclusion to the Saga line is a pretty big deal, as it is the company’s more affordable car models. Although, you are expected to fork out a recommended on-the-road price (without insurance) of RM 44,300 for the Premium S – still considerably less pricier than the 2022 Proton Iriz 1.6L Executive CVT, which also comes with the feature.
Besides that, the new 2022 Proton Saga Premium S arrives with an updated exterior, complete with side and front bumper skirts, a slightly lowered profile, auto-fold wing mirrors, and 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels with 185/55-section tyres. When entering the car, you’re greeted with a black with red accent themed interior which features leatherette steering and seats, a Push Start button for keyless ignition, as well as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android and iOS phone connectivity.
Performance-wise, the Premium S and its siblings share the same 1.3 litre four-cylinder NA engine, along with a DOHC VVT unit. With the exception of the Proton Saga Standard MT, the high-end model and the remaining variants come with a four-speed auto gearbox. The former, meanwhile, is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
As for features, the Proton Saga Premium S comes with N95 cabin filter equipped air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, reverse camera, steering buttons, front and rear parking sensors, power windows, and three USB ports (one in front, two in the back). In terms of safety functions, the car is equipped with two front airbags, electronic stability control, and hill hold assist.
The 2022 Proton Saga line-up starts from RM 34,400 for the Standard MT variant, RM 38,300 for the Standard AT, and RM 41,300 for the regular Premium variant. As mentioned earlier, the top-end Premium S model is priced at RM 44,300, which offers you with a sportier look, more features and, exclusively, the keyless entry and ignition function.
