PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has been instructed to investigate the case involving a driver who blocked the path of an ambulance on the North-South Expressway (NSE), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“I have instructed the JPJ director-general to investigate the driver of this vehicle who is very inconsiderate,” the Transport Minister said while sharing a video of the incident on his Facebook page.
Dr Wee said refusing to give way to an ambulance is an offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).
“Strict action must be taken against the offender,” he added.
In a 38-second video clip that went viral on social media, a white-coloured MPV is seen blocking the ambulance even though its siren and lights are on.
Kampar OCPD Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud was reported saying that “appropriate” action had been taken against the 62-year-old man, who suffers from tinnitus or high-pitched ringing in the ears, due to an acoustic neuroma (a benign brain tumour).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who shared the video on his Twitter account, had described the driver as selfish.
