The EV segment in Malaysia has been quite busy for the past few months as several new models have made their way to our market. Among them is the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric SUV which was launched back in March although its tag price was only revealed in early April.
The new SUV has also claimed the honour as the first locally assembled EV in Malaysia. The variant released in our market is equipped with a 300kWh dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup which has 408 PS of maximum power and 660Nm of torque.
Alongside the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric also has a top speed of 180km/h. Its 78kWh battery is able to provide up to 418km of WLTP driving range and takes from 37 minutes to 34 hours to charge depending on whether you use a 150kW DC fast charger, 7/22kW AC charger, or 3-pin home plug.
Interesting enough, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) today announced that the company has stopped taking online order requests for it which sounds rather bizarre since the company has just delivered the SUV to customers barely a month ago. VCM explained that this was done due to the overwhelming demand from consumers as it has received more than 400 orders since XC40 Recharge Pure Electric’s official debut back in March.
Over 120 units have since been delivered to customers while VCM plans to open the order once again when the company is ready to launch the 2023 model in our market. The refreshed model is first introduced to the global audience a few months ago and features certain changes such as new headlamps as well as a front bumper design that resembles its crossover cousin, the C40.
However, VCM did not reveal the Malaysian launch date for it in today’s announcement although the company did note that customers can still test-drive the 2022 model at Volvo authorised dealers. We will keep you updated once we hear more from the company regarding the 2023 XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, so stay tuned.
