More details of the OPPO A98 have leaked in recent days despite the brand having yet to officially announced the device. It has long been rumoured that OPPO has been working on a new mid-range smartphone with the model number CPH2529, with speculations that it will be a rebrand of the China-exclusive OPPO A1 5G for the global market.
The phone has been spotted on certification sites in China, Indonesia, and even Thailand, with alleged renders of the A98 leaked earlier this week by Appuals, along with its purported specs. More recently, the mid-ranger has been spotted on the benchmark site Geekbench running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset.
According to the Geekbench listing, the phone scored 885 and 2,034 in single-core and multi-core tests respectively. It also features 8GB of RAM and runs on Android 13 out of the box.
If the previous leak is to be believed, the OPPO A98 will sport a 6.7-inch 1080p LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a punch hole cutout for the selfie snapper, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and Panda Glass for protection. Other reported specs include 256GB of internal storage, a 5,000mAh battery, 67W fast charging support, IPX4 water resistance, a microSD storage expansion slot, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
For the camera setup, the report claims that the device will feature a 64MP primary camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor, while the front shooter will use a 32MP sensor. The main camera is where the A98 mainly differs from the A1 5G, which has a 50MP lens.
Notably, while the OPPO A98 has not been announced yet, it already received SIRIM certification last month. This means there is a high chance that the phone will be launched in Malaysia relatively soon, but we’ll have to wait for the company to make an official announcement.
