Following the reveal of the Suunto Vertical line of smartwatches earlier this week, as well as their prices, it was only a matter of time until the official launch was held. And that’s what happened today, with the company officially launching the new line of wearables for the local market.

To quickly revisit, the Suunto Vertical comes in two primary variants – Stainless steel and Titanium Solar, with both coming with four choices of strap colours each. Both are equipped with a 1.4-inch 280 x 280 screen, with scratch resistance provided by a layer of sapphire crystal. It is also water-resistant up to 100m, with a MIL-STD 810H rating for durability.

As you’d expect from the brand, the Suunto Vertical comes with a wide range of health and workout tracking features. The range includes the likes of heart rate and sleep tracking, as well as running, cycling and swimming for workouts. For the latter group, you can take things further, getting the wearable to track training load and recovery as well, letting you optimise your workouts.

With their similarities covered, let’s take a look at the differences between the Stainless steel and Titanium solar models of the Suunto Vertical smartwatches. And the hint is really in the names. The former is a tad heavier, weighing in at 86g for the 49 x 49 x 13.6 mm body, while the latter has a weight of 76g. But more importantly, the latter also supports solar charging to supplement its already impressive battery life. The company claims that, used simply as a watch, the solar charging can push the 60-day battery life up to a year. With tracking and notifications turned on, a 30-day battery life can be doubled with the help of solar charging.
