Sekinchan rep vying for DAP’s central executive committee post

KLANG: After serving in the DAP for over 20 years, the party’s Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim will for the first time contest for one of the party’s 30 coveted central executive committee (CEC) positions.

“I think it’s timely that I try for one of the positions so that I can serve the party better at the national level,’’ said Ng, who is also the Selangor Legislative Assembly Speaker.

According to the Javanese speaking Klang native, he felt it was time he expanded his services to the national sphere instead of just working at the state level.

The 52-year-old is a popular DAP personality in Selangor and beat 51 others to emerge number one in the DAP state polls held in November last year.

Ng said he also decided to contest after knowing that party stalwart Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Datuk Teng Chang Khim will not be defending his CEC position.

Six-term assemblyman Teng, who is also a Selangor executive councillor, has been a CEC member for more than two decades.

He had indicated that he will be bowing out of politics and not defending any of his positions in the party.

“Since Teng will not be there anymore, I thought I should contest and get a position in the CEC,’’ said Ng, who is one of Teng’s close allies.

Furthermore, said Ng, he believed he can now look at other avenues as his constituency is doing well due to years of hard work.

“I have managed to transform Sekinchan into a tourist attraction and can now concentrate on other areas,’’ said the five-term Sekinchan assemblyman.
