Trump’s Call to Halt: Can Israel and Iran End the Hostilities?

(SeaPRwire) –   By: Alistair Kroon
The renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran have drawn global attention. President Donald Trump demanded they “stop shooting” on Monday morning. He also said both sides seek an immediate cease – fire and that peace negotiations are ongoing, but the U.S. will keep the blockade on Iranian ports until a deal is final. The Iranian military has announced an end to attacks on Israel.

The official statements seem hopeful. Trump claims a quick peace deal is possible. However, geopolitically, the situation is complex. Israel’s strikes on Lebanon’s Hezbollah and then on Iran’s petrochemical plant, and Iran’s retaliation, show deep – seated tensions. Iran insists a U.S. cease – fire must include an end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon, and there’s extreme suspicion in U.S. – Iran talks.

World leaders are urging restraint. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, U.K. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, and others call for a return to cease – fire and diplomacy. They’re worried about the global impact, especially on oil trade through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, oil prices have soared. Brent crude reached $97.8 per barrel on Monday, up from $92.9 on Friday. In the U.S., gasoline prices have risen significantly, and Trump faces criticism over the economic costs.

The geopolitical pendulum is precariously balanced. If the current hostilities continue, it could derail peace negotiations and further disrupt the global oil market. A diplomatic solution is urgently needed to avoid a more severe crisis.
