Seagate is obviously a fan of the Star Wars franchise, as evidenced by the launch of its Beskar Ingot-themed external storage drives, inspired by the critically acclaimed internet series, The Mandalorian. This year, the storage brand appears to be kicking it up a notch by launching a special Lightsaber Edition series of its FireCuda NVMe Gen4 SSDs.
The prize here isn’t so much the FireCuda SSDs but the new specially designed, low-profile heatsinks that bear the lightsaber etchings on them. What makes these heatsinks unique is that they come alive in the typical colour of Red, Green, and Blue, the minute you power up your PC, giving you the aesthetics of a miniature lightsaber turning on in your system.
Stating the obvious then, these special editions FireCuda SSDs come in three flavours: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. No prizes in guessing which colour is associated with which iconic character then. Oh, and this goes without saying but Seagate obviously got the rights to make these products from Lucasfilm itself and more importantly, the plates are interchangeable, and each purchase of the drives includes all three heatsinks, so it isn’t a “collect them all” situation where you’re forced to buy each one separately.
Beyond the Lightsaber aesthetics, the FireCuda NVMe Gen4 SSD performs just as you’d expect a premium, high-end storage option would. On paper, the SSD has an average sequential read and write speed of 7300MB/s, making it one of the fastest options on the market.
As for price, the Lightsaber Edition FireCuda SSDs are already available and come in two storage capacities, 1TB and 2TB. The 1TB version goes for US$185 (RM814) while the 2TB model retails for US$290 (~RM1276). Sadly, at the time of writing, there is no local pricing or availability for these stylish SSDs. We’ve reached out to Seagate and are still awaiting a response from the brand.
