MELAKA: Local boat and ship builders should take advantage of the Market Development Grant (MDG) offered by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, says Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

Lim said MDG would help the business community to expand internationally.

“Boat and shipbuilding companies should grab the opportunity to use the various assistance and facilities provided by the government,” he said after the launching of the Seafarer Explorer Composite factory at Pulau Gadong by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali on Sunday (Feb 13).

Lim said Miti was ready to assist local boat and ship building companies and urged those involved to meet them for more details.

He said the MDG would help boat and ship builders participate in international trade fairs related to the development of the shipping or marine components industry.

“The industry has vast potential to expand outside the country and not only for the domestic market, in view that boats and ships are used in sectors like fisheries and transportation.

“Through the exhibition, the companies involved can also promote or introduce their products to other participating countries,” he added.
