Dr Wee questions whether Guan Eng will show up for planned debate on Sunday (March 6)

JOHOR BARU: With less than 24 hours to go before a planned debate, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong continues to question if Lim Guan Eng will show up.

Dr Wee, the MCA president said the DAP secretary-general should not shy away, as all preparations have been made for their debate on Sunday (March 6) afternoon.

“Guan Eng, let’s debate tomorrow. Don’t run away, okay?

“Be present tomorrow, I will wait for you,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (March 5) night.

Dr Wee said Lim could bring along former deputy education minister and Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching as his assistant in the debate.

“I can do one versus two, no problem, as long as Lim dares to attend at 2pm at the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association,” he added.

On March 1, Dr Wee challenged Lim to a debate over his claims that the MCA president did not contribute as much as him towards the construction of SJKC Kuek Ho Yao in Seri Austin in Johor.

Lim allegedly made the claim at a ceramah during the second night of the Johor state election campaign.

Soon after, Teo posted on her Facebook that she would see Dr Wee on Sunday (for the debate).

Back in March 2018, then Penang chief minister Lim was quoted as saying that he would only debate the state’s tunnel-roads issue with MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.

Lim reportedly said then MCA deputy president Dr Wee, who had issued the challenge, was not fit to engage with a debate with him based on the principle of political protocol.

On Friday (March 4), Dr Wee said Lim should come out and debate him based on “political hierarchy” now that he (Dr Wee) is party president.

The stage for the debate has been set at the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association hall here at 2pm Sunday (March 6).
