Don’t waste vote on Opposition party in ‘unwinnable’ position, says Guan Eng

JOHOR BAHRU: Voters in Johor should not waste their vote on an Opposition party that stands no chance in winning the state election and defeating Barisan Nasional, says Lim Guan Eng.

Without naming any specific party, the DAP secretary-general questioned whether the party’s decision to join the Johor state election was to split Opposition votes.

“There is talk that a certain party wants to split votes and not to win. I don’t know, maybe they want to ensure a victory for Barisan?

“They could not win, so why not help Opposition parties (Pakatan Harapan) to win.

“So, don’t waste your votes. If you vote for a party with no chance of winning and defeating Barisan, then that is a spoilt vote,” said Lim during a ceramah at the Johor Jaya operations centre on Sunday (March 6).

Lim then stressed the importance of ensuring that Opposition votes are not split for Pakatan to prevail in the upcoming polls.

Previously, on March 1, Lim was also quoted by several reports as questioning Parti Warisan’s participation in the Johor state election.

Lim was quoted as saying that Warisan’s presence could split Chinese votes and by only contesting six seats, Warisan would not change the state’s political landscape.

Warisan is contesting six seats in the Johor state election – Bekok (Sandara Segaran Arumugam), Pekan Nanas (Hishamuddin Busri), Mahkota (Mohamed Noor Suleiman), Bukit Batu (Lee Ming Wen), Johor Jaya (Chen Hain Kai) and Permas (Mohamed Ridza Bush).

DAP and Warisan will clash in the Pekan Nanas, Bekok and Johor Jaya seats.

Meanwhile, Warisan will clash with Parti Amanah Negara in Mahkota and Permas as well as with PKR in Bukit Batu.

Polling for the Johor election is on March 12.
