Netflix is taking another shot at adapting existing IPs. There have been successful ones like Castlevania and The Witcher, and arguably not so successful ones like Cowboy Bebop. Then there are a couple more in queue like Tomb Raider and The Elder Scrolls. Now, we have the latest addition to the queue: Bioshock.
Naturally, for this project, Netflix is partnering with the game’s developer and publisher, 2K Games, and its parent company Take-Two Interactive. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film adaptation does not yet have a writer or filmmaker tied to it yet.

This wouldn’t be the first attempt at making a Bioshock film, but there’s a chance that it would be the first successful one. A previous attempt saw The Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski giving it a go, not too long after the first game’s initial release. But that attempt was left in limbo for a very long time before it was eventually scrapped.
Assuming this attempt does go smoothly, the underwater city of Rapture does make for an interesting setting for a film. But it probably wouldn’t be able to tell the same kind of story as the video game did.
