First introduced to the world last June, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC has finally made its debut in Malaysia. The arrival of the SUV series into our market is being spearheaded by the new GLC 300 4MATIC.
At the heart of the new SUV is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which also features a 48-volt mild hybrid system and a second-generation integrated starter-generator. Paired with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, the GLC 300 4MATIC has a power output of 258hp (190kW).
Together with a maximum torque of 400Nm, the new model is able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 240km/h. Being a 4MATIC release, this means that the SUV model also features an all-wheel drive system.
When compared to its predecessor, Mercedes-Benz noted that the new model is 60mm longer and 4mm lower while its track widths have been increased as well by 6mm at the front and 23mm at the rear. The company also said that the luggage capacity of the GLC 300 4MATIC is 70 litres more than the previous model.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia noted that the GLC 300 4MATIC for our market comes standard with AMG Line exterior package designed to deliver a sportier look through its front apron with sporty air intakes and chrome trim element, as well as the diffuser-look rear apron. In addition to that, it also features the 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels and Digital Light high-definition headlamps as standard together with polished aluminium roof rails and aluminium-look running boards with rubbers studs.
The Malaysian variant of the GLC 300 4MATIC also comes with the AMG Line interior package which provides quite a number of goodies by default such as AMG sports pedals and AMG mats. Spirited drivers out there might be pleased to know that this SUV comes with a multi-function sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom section while it is also covered in Nappa leather.
The interior of the car also features Artico man-made leather and Microcut microfibre upholstery in black. However, customers can also opt for the two-tone combination of sienna brown and black although this option is only available for a limited time.
Powered by the latest iteration of the MBUX infotainment system, owners of the new GLC 300 4MATIC can rely on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to receive all the important driving data. Comes complete with MBUX Navigation Premium package as standard alongside support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the SUV has also been equipped with an 11.9-inch central display and Burmester 3D surround sound system.
While the 360-degree camera and parking sensors might be something that you may expect from a premium SUV, what really matters are the things that Mercedes-Benz has done with them on the new GLC 300 4MATIC. One of them is the Active Parking Assist with Parktronic which can help owners find and manoeuvre into parking spaces easily regardless of whether parallel or perpendicular parking.
There is also the GUARD 360° vehicle protection system that would alert owners if there are break-in attempts on their GLC 300 4MATIC. Alongside an anti-theft alarm system, interior monitoring system, and tow-away protection, the system also utilized the SUV’s camera to capture images if it detects a collision.
The GLC 300 4MATIC may not look the part but the SUV has actually been designed to withstand off-road driving which does not come as a surprise given that Mercedes-Benz has pitched it as a vehicle that can match one’s active and adventurous lifestyle. To help owners go through their off-road adventures, the SUV has its own off-road drive program that would activate the dedicated off-road user interface on both the central display and the driver’s digital instrument cluster.
They also have access to a feature called Transparent Bonnet that provides a virtual view of underneath their GLC 300 4MATIC which could be a very handy feature in rough terrain. During its official launch last week, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia prepped up showcase units with rooftop tents and mountings to provide some ideas on how the new SUV can adapt to outdoor lifestyles.
Not to forget, there are also plenty of safety features within the SUV such as Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist, and Blind Spot Assist. Available in a variety of colourways including Obsidian Black, High-Tech Silver, Mojave Silver, Graphite Grey, Selenite Grey, and Spectral Blue as well as the higher-end MANUFAKTUR Hyacinth Red Metallic and Diamond White Bright, the fully-imported (CBU) GLC 300 4MATIC can be obtained in Malaysia with a starting price of RM429,888 not inclusive of insurance.
